The Swaps
So, we will need to keep the color families balanced and that will affect the colors that are swapped in and out. I think Stampin’ Up is happy with the combination of ten colors in each family – Regals, Brights, Subtles, and Neutrals. It likely makes marketing easier too, as things like stamp pads and ink refills can be sold in the appropriate sets. So, our choices will have to reflect that. Also, it is unlikely that Stampin’ Up will move a color from one family to another (even if my OCD occasionally wants to.)
Regal Swaps
Ok, you all saw this coming, right? Out with Shaded Spruce and in with Pretty Peacock.
This a practically perfect and balanced color family.
Bright Swaps
Out with Poppy Parade, Daffodil Delight and Coastal Cabana. In with Magenta Madness, Pineapple punch and Lemon Lime Twist
Subtle Swaps
Goodbye Petal Pink and Soft Sea Foam. Welcome to stay Pale Papaya and Fresh Freesia.
Neutrals
Cinnamon Cider makes a wonderful addition to the neutrals and give is a more orangey brown that has a lot of flexibility.
Ok, I’ll admit my other change is a little weak. Misty Moonlight doesn’t really belong here (probably in the Regals or Subtles category, but I couldn’t figure out what to kick out of the club to replace with it 🙁 It is a nice, denim-y color that does kind of fit here very well. I think that’s why it was so popular.
Conclusion
Conclusion
I have no basis for this, but ten colors is a nice round number, and an easy way to rebalance the colors. It’s a quarter of the existing colors, but not an overwhelming amount to repurchase or replace, if needed. I picked eight to fill in obvious holes. Any way that it goes, someone is going to be losing a color they love (Coastal Cabana) but will probably get a new favorite in exchange.
